30 Day Photo Challenge - Day One

Instead of me going through the whole speel - check out my good friend and fellow scrapbooker blog for more details: http://nzqueent.blogspot.com/Day One - A picture of yourself with 10 facts
1. Happily married with two children - I've been with my husband since I was 17years old.
2. I have a $2.00 shop addiction which I should be in therapy for
3. I hate saying my age out loud 'cause it makes me feel old
4. I love being creative and sharing creative ideas with others
5. I am the youngest of 7 children
6. I don't always make the good choices
7. I have lots of friendships but only a few close friends.
8. I would love to travel more around Nz and visit Niue one more time before I die
9. When I was younger I wanted to be a mechanic, a hairdresser, a flight attendant, fashion designer. Now I just want to be happy.
10. I am very much like my mother and sometimes it's hard for us to be in the same room together but I wouldn't be without her.

Layered Title

It's quite not clear but what I did here was used 2 different fonts for the word "Happy" and then use small chipboard letters for the "b'day" and then slightly layered it over the top to show depth.
Alpha Tip - if you don't have enough letters to form a word in full try using txt speak/language as an alternative

Happy Birthday

I had started this layout at the April Scrapbook Retreat, I was a little short on ideas until I spied my neighbour Tania creating another masterpiece and thought what the hey I can do something like that.If you check out this link
( http://cazdezign.blogspot.com/2011/05/scrapbook-retreat-inspiration-board.html )
you will see that I hadn't completed the title. Titles and journalling are my scrapbooking weakness.

Field Trip

I couldn't make it to my monthly workshop so I did the next best thing - scrapped at home and upload my layouts. I managed the layout part but didn't upload it.

Embellishment Swap 2010/2011

I re-bagged all 5 swaps into 12x12 clear zip lock bags. They did come in their own individual bags but I did this so I could clearly see what was in each.
Swap Bag no.1 from Tania
Swap Bag no.2 from Lisa (I left out the Sparkle Magic Rub-on Transfers)
This was my handmade item from Lisa - she had plans on making it herself but decided it would be better to give one to each of us to "handmake" it ourselves...lol.
Swap Bag no.3 from Wendy
Swap Bag no.4 from Carolann
Swap bag no.5 from Sylvia

This was our second embellishment swap and again it was a huge success - THANK YOU ladies. We had originally wanted to do the swap over Xmas but it didn't seem practical as a couple of our ladies live out of town (Chch and Aussie) and since we were all going to be at the April Scrapbook Retreat the timing would be perfect. Carolann and Wendy had set up the other room with tables one for each person in the swap. Then on the day of the swap we all stood behind our respect tables and revealed all - it was like Christmas, no it was better than Christmas 'cause I actually got something I wanted...lol.

For me it was a real challenge to find scrapbooking items when out shopping. Many of the scrapbook stores had closed down and shopping online wasn't an option. Soooo what I did was try to be as practical as possible with the choices I made and judging by the looks - I did well. AND ladies I was very, very pleased with all the wonderful and thoughtful embellishments I had recieved.

Earlier in the year we had done quite a bit of travelling around the upper North Is. and I found some real bargains along the way:
Whangaparoa - Cafe Bean mugs (couldn't find them in Auck's anywhere)
Hamilton - Basic Grey rub-ons with bling
Rotorua - American Craft Ribbon
Hastings - Bling pearls and popcorn bowls
Taupo - visited Krafty Krafters? didn't buy anything for the group...hahaha

Embellishment Swap guidelines for your own craft/scrapbooking group
1. Have a list of say 20 items eg..ribbon, rub-on's, bling. Each person has to buy say 5 from the list. Add a couple of must have items eg..Kiwiana or Xmas and a purchase from a hardware store, taking your up to 7-8 and then add a couple of fun things eg...handmade item, something from the beach...up to you.
2. Decide on the no. of people in your swap group (ours had 6) and then buy 6 of each item eg...6 ribbons, 6 rubons - you get the picture. It's probably a good idea to keep the group no. low as it can become costly the higher the no.
3. Set a dollar value to each item - if you manage to get it on sale, all the better. Some of us added more some stuff and some stuck to the exact no., don't stress as you get loads of yummy stuff.
4. Decide when to do the swap - perhaps at the last workshop of the year or a scrap retreat, over dinner, your choice.
5. Include yourself , I mean why wouldn't you want to have all the cool stuff you've brought the others in your swap group.
6. Laminate your list and put it in your handbag for easy reference when your out and about. It also helps to eliminate double ups which can be costly.
7. You might want to take a one year on, one year off approach or change the no. of items, add a theme....to keep things fresh and challenging.

To all your crafters/scrapbookers out there, if you find and read this and are inspired to do your own swap I would love to hear all about it.

Onesie Mini Album for Angelo

At a recent all day scrapbook workshop I won this Blast of Card Kit by BoBunny. As I not good with cards I came up with this mini album instead. The brightness of the kit appealled to my "polynesian" sense of colour and it seem timely to make something for the newest extended family member. I had a lot of fun making it and it's one of those projects I can say "its done"

Instructions
1. Cut out a template from plastic chopping boards you find at the $2.00 shop
2. Cut out required no. of pages, if your chipboard is a bit thin cut 2 and glue together
3. Add paper to front and back - combo of kit and bazzill to make the supplies stretch
4. Now that you have the basic's down it's time to start decorating
* items used - bling, wire, letter beads, ink, flowers, buttons, rubon quotes, acrylic stamps

If you would like me to cut and send you a template (18cm x 13cm - aprox)
- please send a self addressed envelope to

A is for Angelo

* Beading wire, alphabet beads, glass beads, wire cutters and pliers

Instructions:
1. Take a length of wire enough to wrap several times around the section you want to cover
2. I worked my way up from the "O" and looped the wire around the selected area
3. To secure poke the end of the wire back through the first red bead and use pliers to wrap around the same bead - huh?!! lol.
4. keep going until you have all the letters in place and secure the same way as the bottom
5. At the back I glued some card stock over the wire loops

Christmas Time

This layout sum's up my father in law to a "T" he's had such a love for music and during hot summer nights he could be found strumming on his ukelele or guitar sitting on the front porch

One year me and the boys made these ornaments.
